This outfit just happened...at the last minute while in New York, having not had much luck finding that perfect outfit white party look. I had packed this dress from the Jennifer Lopez collection at Kohls to wear to the white party during FFFWeek in New York, however I was not feeling it. I tried to look for something else at the last minute and then remembered I'd packed these amazing culottes from ASOS (the regular line), did I tell you guys how I've been obsessed with culottes lately? I love that they give the look of a skirt but are still comfy like pants...I'm definitely obsessed!

Since, I'd definitely over packed for my week stay in NYC I also had this peplum top on hand as well. I ended up finding this beautiful statement necklace while jewelry shopping with Chante from Everything Curvy and Chic and so at the last minute all of these items just had to work. Even though every thing was a bit off white I thought it came together nicely, especially for an impromptu outfit! I especially love the dimension the necklace adds to the look.

What do you enjoy most about thrifting? I like finding pieces that I know no one else will have. It allows me to be creative in my choices.

Pants thrifted

What are two tips you would give someone who's thrifting for the first time?
1). Make time for it. Usually to find great pieces, you have to hunt through the racks. If you're in a rush, you won't give yourself the time to really dig.
2). Don't go in with an agenda. For me when I thrift I just like to go and see what I can find. I don't go with a shopping list, cause that's when nothing is every right.

I have a couple, a Nicole Lee hand bag, I got in college, and most recently a pair of nude Steve Madden pumps.

Phillip Lim for Target + My Plus Size Hips

So I know I wasn't the only who snagged a few things from the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Collection, I was a bit nervous though because I wasn't sure if the items would work for my plus size body. I didn't make it in store to try on the items but I was pretty pleased to see that size 16's were still available in the items I wanted online. So I quickly ordered so that I wouldn't miss out!

As you all know I love a great skater skirt/or dress so naturally I couldn't pass up this Silky Skirt in Navy and also the one in animal print, which are still available online. I love the fit and the flow of the skirt and I can't wait to wear this again, I plan to roughen it up next time. Being that it's navy it's a great piece to have in my closet as I can mix and match it.

On another note, I know my posting has been a bit sporadic but life calls! I'm working on few projects and I'll be speaking at the 2013 Style Bloggers of Color Conference on Oct. 11th and 12th, next month in Miami! I'm a workshop leader and will be speaking on fashion blogger communities, like the one I founded FASH DET: Fashion Bloggers of Detroit I'll also be on the "Social Media Butterfly" panel. I hope you guys have purchased your tickets and I can't wait to see you there!

So, if you follow me on Instagram (@stylechic360) then you know I've been testing my theory of wearing florals to work, in hopes that warmer weather will be on it's way....Well, I definitely think I jinxed things, because just yesterday we were hit with more snow and frigid temps! In this weather it's hard not to layer up in hopes of staying warm and stylish.

I admit though, most times stylish goes out of the window as I'm pretty much in my knee length bubble coat most days, lol! Singing...It's so cold in the D!

When I found these Jennifer Lopez for Kohls lace up booties on sale a couple months ago, I had no idea I would like them so much, they've definitely become a new favorite in my closet. Have you ever had one of those days...you know a wardrobe disaster type of a day? When a fashion fix was in order...well I definitely had one last Friday. I'd packed my bag so that I'd be ready to hit The Simply Chanelle Blog Launch Party with Liz of Illustrious Liz and when it was time to change I realized I had forgotten my undergarments and there was no way I was going to be able to wear a bodycon dress without my spanx, even if I'd be pairing it with a vest! No, no, no...did I say NO? hehe! Well thank goodness I was living outside of my car last week, lol! A quick improvise and wearing my body con dress as a top saved my night.

How I Rocked: The @HM Pleated Skirt

I must admit, I absolutely love the skater skirt on my silhouette, it compliments my curves and hides my pouch in the best way. I found this H&M Pleated Skirt over the weekend and had to wear it during my mini vacation. I absolutely love the color, thickness and the way it fits. I definitely think I've found a new wardrobe favorite, isn't it cute? Honestly, these indoor pictures aren't doing it justice.

The Main Reason I Started Meal Prepping #mealprep

On the morning of my 31st birthday in January, I looked in the mirror and was shocked at what appeared to be a new stomach no lie! I honestly was disgusted and that day I decided I had to "do better". I made a promise to myself that I would start a healthier lifestyle and adjust my eating, activeness and overall health.

I tossed out all the unhealthy items in my kitchen, purchased some new workout clothes and was on my way. I started my workouts again and even purchased a few of Jillian Micheal's workout dvd's. I even purchased a Polar FT4 and it has helped me push myself and stay on track during workouts.

It wasn't long before I started to come across many Instagram accounts geared towards health and especially meal prep. I was intrigued. Naturally, I've always been a very picky eater and my disdain of fast food had increased to an all time high. It was time I started something new. So, I decided it was nothing to it, but to do it and I prepared my first week of meal preps.

Since then I've only purchased fresh food, healthy snacks and have been very successful in this clean eating change. I'm actually very proud of myself and I feel lighter on my feet. Meal preps has allowed me to plan and be fall to temptation less, I'm much more disciplined in my choices. For me, this just works.

How I Style Joggers from Pop UP Plus

If you've noticed a few things about me, you all know that I've come to love joggers pants, they are a great mix of style and chic, hehe. So naturally, when I was contacted by Pop Up Plus to participate in a style challenge of their Faux Leather Front Panel Joggers, I quickly headed to the site to see which color I would chose. As you can see I chose the red snakeskin, but they are also available in blue and black. What I loved most about these joggers was the surprise element and this awesome print on the back of the pant. The printed accents add such a nice touch to the pants. Wouldn't you agree?

I really wanted the pants to stand out so I paired them with a Forever 21 basic cami that I made into a makeshift crop top and a white blazer to add a bit of structure to the look. Slid on my Zara lace up booties and my thrifted cuff necklace and the look was complete! I have to say I love it!

I've never been to fond of jumpsuits, but when I saw this one on the Forever 21 + website, I had to have it! Once I received it in the mail I was pleasantly surprised by the fit and quality. Although, I've lost weight since ordering and will have to get it altered I've already worn it twice! Shhh, don't tell. :) Honestly, I'm hoping I get lucky and find another one.

I thought pairing it with this Lauren Conrad floral blazer would add a nice touch. I'll have to wear it again once I have it altered so that I can show you the cutout in the back, it's super sexy!

Ok, first things first did you watch Scandal last night? Lord, that show makes my nerves bad, seriously, who else is excited for the season finale, next week? Of course we're excited to see it, but not so excited about having another break from the show, right? We all have become obsessed with Olivia Pope's coats and so when I caught this Forever 21 coat on sale I had to have it! It's perfection honestly.

My brother and photographer shot these pictures of me at the beginning of March and I totally forgot about them, it's funny though we're still wearing coats, scarves and gloves here in Detroit because it's sooo cold in the D! LOL! You guys know I love thrifting and I've really been lucky to find some amazing pieces, in the past and on a recent thrifting trip. I can't wait to show you all what I found, stay tuned for a haul video on Youtube channel. For me mixing vintage with new always adds a fun touch, wouldn't you agree?

Pastels are really hot and trending for Spring 2014, and I've been on the hunt for the perfect pant. So when Illustrious Liz and I headed out to an impromptu thrifting session, I couldn't pass these mint peg pants up! That day I lucked up and found the cutest things! I can't wait to show you all. As you know, I'm not much of a trendy shopper but I'm definitely looking forward to wearing more pastels this spring, I honestly, pray that I find a mint top so that I wear it with these pants, that would be so cute right?

This was the perfect outfit to wear to Resurrection Sunday service and I really loved the way it turned out.
